Travel Insurance FAQs

First of all, before going granular into travel insurance, you should know about why you should opt for travel insurance. Travelling outside your country, there are lots of things to be considered like securing cash, your passport and other documents. Then, there are unforeseen circumstances to be pre-empted – you may lose your documents, your flight might get canceled or you could get sick. For all such downside, you need insurance to protect yourself. The legal documents that you carry (such as passport) are your legal identity in another country. In every situation, travel insurance will cover you and your losses.

One of my friends was flying to Los Angeles and I suggested he take travel insurance while booking the flight, but he said that he was already covered under health insurance and did not see merit in purchasing travel insurance. While I did explain to him other benefits besides health such as being covered for up to 100% trip cancellation, trip interruption, delay in trip, baggage delay, emergency evacuation and even emergency medical expenses but he was not convinced. He had read certain bad reviews about travel insurance that had adversely affected his perception of travel insurance. Unfortunately, he lost his baggage along with traveler’s checks during his trip and faced a lot of problem, which is when he realized the importance of travel insurance.
